John Starks Life By: Ben Kelley John Stark had a rough childhood John Archibald Stark was born August 28, 17278 in London dairy, New Hampshire. At age eight he moves from his farm to Derryfield (now Manchester). His dad dies shortly after he moves July, twenty-fifth. As you can see his early life was not easy. John had a steady but sad life with his family. Stark marries Elizabeth Page August 20th. After going to war he son Archibald may, 20th. He has another son John April, 17 dies shortly after. He has a daughter Sarah June 11. Another daughter Eleanor May, 4. Another daughter Eleanor Jr. June 30 dies days later. Eleanor dies in August. ANOTHER daughter Mary August 19. His wife Elizabeth dies June 29 1814 John Stark dies May 8, 1822. From a hard early life to an OK later life……. It’s time for war. Are you wondering, I know Stark went to war but what did he do? Stark fought in two wars, French and Indian and the revolutionary war Stark fought in New York most of the time. John’s soldiers overturned foes in the battle of Bennington on October 4, 1777. Stark played a key role in a battle near fort Carillon on snowshoes. John went to war half is lifetime, that’s a lot of orders and yelling as a general! Didn't John Stark create the New Hampshire state motto? Yes, he actually did. After the revolutionary war, John was invited to a meal. He had to give a letter that letter ended up the state motto. What he said was: Live Free or Die, Death is not the worst of evils. With 1,500 men by the order of Benjamin Lincoln to go to Charlestown, New Hampshire but did Stark follow orders? Oh no he led his men to the rear of major general John Burgoyne’s invading British army. John isn’t just the state motto he is much, much more. At an early adulthood, John had a lot of awards in 1757 at age 28 he was appointed captain. Three years later in 1760 he returned home for a while. After returning to the army, He was in command of the northern New York frontier. Also, he was in command of Bunker Hill, while a second lieutenant in Rogers’s rangers. John Archibald Stark had an incredible life from moving to dad-less to being captured by Indians to having eleven children to saving the revolutionary war to death at age 93. He was the kind of guy who would go against orders to save many lives. He was brave, ambitious, a good leader and powerful. He would never leave anyone to die.
